BookExpo 2007
Jun. 8th, 2007 06:50 amI wonder how many people were like me, watching or even knowing about the American BookExpo only because Stephen Colbert hosted it (and because the torrent appeared on the Internet).
I like him, with or without his beard. And I thank him for introducing me to interesting books like Lisa See's Peony in Love. After taking the translation studies class, I have serious doubt about foreigners writing fiction set in China and this Miss See didn't really look Chinese. But whne she talked about her great grandfather who was an imported labourer, that finally convinced me that at least she has some connection with Chinese.Of course diasporas writing about the country of their ancestors is also often accused to be inaunthentic. But it's at least safer when the writer has some idea of the Chinese people.
