starring Tony Leung Chiu-Wai
Oddball Fantasy/Crime/Comedy
Came across this film while channel-hopping on cable TV. I was immediately stunned by how weird this film was.
The first thing I noticed was that a famous local football commentator (imagine Jimmy Hill acting!) starred in it and his role was not really a bit part. But it then flashed to another scene which had Tony Leung and a reputed theatre actress (whose name I forgot), which usually suggest this is an art film or at least quality drama. In this scene, the film looked like crime/mystery + psycho thriller, shot with Wong Kar-Wai style cinematography (handheld camera and all). But it's also dead funny (alright, I know 99% Hong Kong films are comedies no matter what genres they belong to.). But the gags are eccentric.
But for Tony Leung, I wouldn't go on watching the film, because the plot really wasn't that strong. Yet, it turns out to be a worthwhile watch. It may be a bit strange and silly but it's quite refreshing. I scratched my head and couldn't understand why someone would fund this film, but the world is more fun with it.
