Just noticed that When Beckham Met Owen is in the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. And I thought the director said that it wasn't a gay film!
One of the films really caught my eyes: Is It Really So Strange?
A gay film-maker investigates the cult of Mancunian singer Morrissey which has developed in Los Angeles. There's a whole new brand of Morrissey fan among the Latinos and Hispanics of LA. Fans, gay and straight, discuss what Morrissey and his music and lyrics mean to them. Desire, self-identity and devotion collide as the complexities of the star's life and art are dissected by his devotees. The tattoos, the stalking, the look-alikes, it's a tremendous picture of a fascinating subculture. Screening as part of a William E. Jones retrospective at Tate Modern in association with the LLGFF.
Morrissey and Latinos! Who would've thought?!
